Student Behavior
Student Behavior and Intervention Responses
Instruction at ACS focuses not just on content areas and academic skills, but also on the social and emotional development of every child. We embody a character education approach to classroom management and discipline, and always treat every child and every case individually, based upon each student's needs.
The following are intervention responses for students not meeting expectations. Consequences are always preceded by investigation of the incident, and are assigned based upon the severity and consistency of the behavior, as well as consideration of the age-appropriateness of both the behavior and the consequence. This list is not sequential, and consequences may include 1 or more of the following interventions.
Students speak with teacher - Teachers are the first line of response; they know their students best.
- Teachers may contact parents
- School counselor may intervene, as deemed necessary
- Student may speak with Vice Principal / Principal
- Administration may contact parents
- Social worker / school psychologist may speak with student and parents
- Student may temporarily lose a privilege, including lunch recess
- Student may be held for detention
- An individual behavior plan, constructed by teacher, counselor and administration may be constructed.
