Physical Education/Health Overview
STATE LAW Every pupil attending the public school, in so far as he or she is physically fit and capable of doing so, which fitness shall be determined by the medical inspector, shall take the course in physical educations.

PREPARATION Grades 6 - 7 - 8
elastic waist shorts/ sweat pants (no spandex) T-shirt/sweatshirt (Team uniforms not allowed) no hats/sunglasses secure sneakers with laces and backs/ socks no gum/ candy no jewelry
**Students must change into another shirt after class has ended due to health reasons. A student will be considered unprepared and receive a zero if they do not change their shirts.**

DEMERITS Points will be deducted from the student's grade for each of the following:
chewing gum wearing jewelry tardiness (without a pass) behavioral problems sneakers that come off during class

EXTRA CREDIT POINTS Extra credit points can be earned by any student that demonstrates behavior such as: exemplary sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership or effort that is above and beyond what is expected.

GRADING 50% Preparation/ Attendance/ Demerits 50% Preparation/ Effort/ Attitude
****Students will be excused for portfolios, music, chorus, peer to peer, speech and other pull out activities. This will not jeopardize their grade.
****Students may not participate in Physical Education class unless they are in proper attire. Exceptions are at the discretion of the teacher. The physical education marking period is divided into halves. Three (3) unprepared marks per ½ will results in failing that ½ of the marking period. If a student excels the other ½ of the marking period, he or she can still possibly pass for that marking period.

LOCKER ROOM AND LOCKS Each student will be issued a lock and locker from the Physical Education department. The combination will be kept on file by the department and by the student. The student will be responsible for handing in their original lock issued or will have to pay the price of the lock. We highly recommend that students do not share their combination with others. At the end of the school year locks will be collected and lockers must be cleaned out.

MEDICAL EXCUSES Parental notes will be accepted for short term illness or injury (up to 5 days). A student, if not feeling well, may sit out on any given day and receive a zero/ medical. The student will have to change into proper Physical Education clothing and a parental note will be expected within five days. If a note is not handed in, the zero/ medical will turn into a zero for that class period. Students must present a doctor's note for prolonged illness exceeding a calendar week. Please have the doctor indicate the length of time the student will be unable to participate. The doctor should indicate if a child can participate on a restricted basis. The student is expected to attend class.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND ATHLETICS Students/athletes MUST participate in Physical Education. If an athlete does not participate in Physical Education they may not participate in the LMS athletic program for that day. (practice/game). Refer to the LMS agenda book.
