  2. Develop a competency framework for “Profile of a Leonia Lion” that breaks down each of the key areas into specific, actionable skills.
  3. Publish the profile of a Leonia Lion in a clear, accessible format for community awareness.

 

Steps to Complete:

  • Engage stakeholders (teachers, parents, students, community members) in defining the qualities and competencies of a future-ready Leonia Lion.
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of the current curriculum and educational standards to determine where critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and digital literacy are already being taught and where there are gaps.
  • Integrate input from local businesses, tech companies, and higher education institutions about what skills are necessary for future careers and academic pursuits.
  • Identify key areas of focus such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and digital literacy.
  • Define what these key competencies look like in practice at various grade levels.
  • Link key competencies at each grade level with actionable and measurable skills, at various grade levels.
  • For each key area of focus, establish age-appropriate milestones that indicate when students should have mastered certain skills.
  • Create assessment criteria to measure progress towards competencies.
  • Design a visual profile and digital version to share with stakeholders.
  • Print and distribute materials: Distribute printed copies of the Profile of a Leonia Lion during school events, parent-teacher conferences, and community meetings.
  • Establish a system for ongoing communication to keep the community updated on how the district uses the Profile of a Leonia Lion to shape curriculum and programming.
  • Develop a system for sharing how students will show progress towards competencies.

  1. Review district programs to identify areas for growth and enhancement, then develop a multi-year plan for improvements.
  2. Review curriculum content delivery and educational practices to identify areas for growth and enhancement, then develop a multi-year plan for improvements.

 

Steps to Complete:

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of all district programs, including: special education, gifted and talented, advisory at LMS, preschool expansion, electives, portfolio courses, support services, information and media literacy, computer science, and technology. (Obj. 1)
  • Develop recommendations for program adjustments and enhancements to better support student learning. (Obj. 1)
  • Execute recommendations for program adjustments and enhancements. (Obj. 1)
  • Assess success of implementation of adjustments and enhancements. (Obj. 1)

  1. Integrate technology purposefully into curriculum and instruction to enhance learning experiences.
  2. Implement a technology integration framework (e.g., SAMR or TPACK model) to guide and evaluate the integration of technology into teaching.

  • Establish an instructional technology committee to develop a cohesive, district-wide vision for technology in education. (Obj. 1 & 2)
  • Assess current staffing needs of the district, i.e. supervisor of instructional technology, media specialists and technology support within the district. (Obj. 1 & 2)
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of technology tools and applications used for student learning. (Obj. 1)
  • Conduct a Computer Science and Design Thinking standards review of district adherence to mandated benchmark. (Obj. 1)
