Leonia High School is excited to provide you with a school-issued iPad. This device will serve as your digital notebook, study aid, textbook, and creative studio, helping you stay organized and participate in active classroom lessons.

iPad Setup & Login

Getting your new high school iPad connected and configured.

Leonia Public Schools uses Mosyle MDM (Mobile Device Management) to link your iPad directly to your school profile. This device is already pre-configured for your high school credentials, meaning you do not have to register it manually.

First-Time Setup

1. Turn on the iPad by holding the physical Power Button on the top edge.
2. Follow the language and country selection prompts on the screen.
3. Connect the device to the school's Wi-Fi network (or your home network).
4. The iPad will prompt you with the Remote Management screen. Tap Next to install the school settings.
5. Log in using your school-provided Managed Apple ID (your full school email address: your.name@leoniaschools.org and school password).
6. Create a secure device passcode (a numeric code of 4 or 6 digits) when prompted. Select a code you can easily remember, but do not share it with classmates.

Managed Apple ID & iCloud

Utilizing your school Apple account and securing 200 GB of free backup space.

Your school iPad is signed in via a Managed Apple ID. This is different from a personal Apple ID because it is created and monitored by the school district to comply with student privacy regulations.

Cloud Backups and Safety

• 200 GB iCloud Backups

  Your school account features 200 GB of secure storage. Your school folders, project notes, homework drafts, and creative assignments are automatically backed up to the cloud. If your iPad ever breaks or is reset, you will not lose your files.
• Account Safety Constraints

  Because this is a school account, personal messaging services like iMessage and FaceTime, and locating features like Find My, are disabled to maintain student safety. App Store downloads are restricted to approved educational tools.

Multi-Touch Gestures

Navigate your screen quickly with swipe shortcuts.

You can control your iPad swiftly without searching for home buttons by learning these simple screen swipe gestures:

• Return Home

  Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to close your current application and return to your Home Screen.
• Open App Switcher

  Swipe up from the bottom edge and pause in the middle of the screen to show all open apps. Swipe left/right to browse, and flick cards upward to close apps.
• Cycle Active Apps

  Swipe left or right along the thin horizontal bar at the very bottom edge of your screen to jump quickly between your recently used apps.
• Zoom Screen

  Pinch two fingers outward to zoom in on study guides, slides, or diagrams. Pinch inward to zoom back out.

Home Screen & App Library

Organize your apps and locate your school tools instantly.

The iPad Home Screen is where your apps sit. You can arrange your classroom apps into custom folders to keep your screen tidy.

Useful Tips for Organization

• Creating Folders: Hold your finger on an application icon until it jiggles. Drag the app on top of another app to create a folder. Name folders after school subjects like "Math", "Science", or "English".
• App Library: Swipe all the way to the right side of your Home Screen pages to find the App Library, which organizes all your installed tools into logical categories.
• Swipe Down to Search: If you cannot find an app, swipe down from the middle of any Home Screen page to open Search. Type the app name (like *Classroom*) to open it immediately.

Control Center & Focus

Adjust screen brightness, connect to Wi-Fi, and silence class distractions.

The Control Center allows you to change key settings like screen volume, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and brightness without opening the Settings app.

Swipe downward from the top-right corner of the screen (where the battery percentage is displayed) to open the dashboard.

Keeping Focus During Class

To prevent personal notifications from distracting you during class periods, configure your Focus mode:

1. Open the Control Center.
2. Tap the Focus button (represented by a crescent moon icon).
3. Select **Do Not Disturb** or select a custom school schedule to silence notifications.

Google Classroom & Drive

Submit your homework, check class materials, and organize school documents.

Leonia High School relies on the Google Suite for assignments and files. Ensure you use the native iPad apps for the best student experience:

Digital Notebooks & Freeform

Take classroom notes, sketch concepts, and brainstorm group projects.

The iPad is a fantastic tool for taking notes and organizing ideas. The district pre-installs professional collaborative software for student projects:

• Apple Freeform (Brainstorming Boards)

  Open the Freeform app to access an infinite digital whiteboard. You can sketch ideas, type notes, drag in web links, and paste images. Share the board with classmates to edit and plan group presentations together in real time.
• Goodnotes for Education (Digital Binder)

  Create multi-subject notebook binders on your iPad. Use your Apple Pencil to write notes, sketch diagrams, import PDF handouts, and annotate worksheets. Goodnotes automatically backs up all of your school notebooks so you never lose your study materials.
• Digital Handwriting & Markup

  Open any school PDF worksheet. Tap the Markup icon (the pencil tip icon) to write directly on the sheet, highlight text, and add text comments before submitting it to Google Classroom.

Class Presentations & AirPlay

Present your project slides and share your screen onto classroom screens.

With your teacher's permission, you can mirror your iPad screen directly to the classroom SmartBoard or projector using AirPlay.

How to Present Your Screen

1. Open the Control Center (swipe down from the top-right corner).
2. Tap the Screen Mirroring button (two overlapping rectangles).
3. Select your classroom's display or projector name from the list.
4. A 4-digit passcode will appear on the classroom board screen. Type this passcode into your iPad popup field.
5. To stop sharing your slides, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, and choose Stop Mirroring.

Physical Device Care

Keep your iPad safe, clean, and functioning throughout the school year.

You are responsible for the physical care of your school-issued iPad. Damage to screens or buttons may result in repair charges. Follow these rules to protect your device:

• Always Use the School Case

  Your iPad must remain inside the protective school-issued case at all times. Do not attempt to take the iPad out of its case.
• Avoid Backpack Pressure

  Do not stack heavy textbooks on top of your iPad inside your backpack, as the pressure can crack the LCD display glass. Place the iPad in a separate sleeve or compartment.
• No Liquid and Proper Cleaning

  Keep drinks and food away from your screen. To clean smudges off the display, use a soft microfiber cloth. Never spray harsh household cleaners or glass sprays directly onto the iPad glass.

Student Use Policies

Understanding the school rules for your school-issued device.

Because the iPad belongs to the school district, student usage is subject to the following rules:

• Content Filtering: The school network filters block inappropriate websites. This filtering is active even when you are using the iPad at home.
• App Restrictions: You cannot download unauthorized games or social media apps. Only school-approved applications available in the **Self-Service** app catalog are permitted.
• Digital Citizenship: Use the iPad respectfully. Cyberbullying, plagiarizing, or attempting to bypass security filters violates the Leonia High School Acceptable Use Policy and will result in disciplinary action.

Troubleshooting Steps

• How to Force Restart (If Frozen)

  If your screen freezes and does not respond to touches: Press and quickly release the **Volume Up** button, press and quickly release the **Volume Down** button, then press and **hold the Power Button** on the top edge until the screen turns black and the Apple logo appears. Release the button.
• Close a Frozen App

  Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle to open the App Switcher. Swipe the frozen application card straight up and off the top edge of the screen to close it completely. Re-open the app from the Home Screen.
• Wi-Fi Connection Issues

  If your iPad disconnects from the internet at school, swipe down from the top-right corner to open the Control Center. Tap the blue Wi-Fi button to turn it off, wait 5 seconds, and tap it again to trigger a fresh network handshake.
